Major Napier - Love More (Sharon Van Etten Cover)
I’ve been investigating some of the back-catalogue of the New Weird Australia compilation I posted about earlier this week. Among the most recent new releases is Major Napier’s cover of Sharon Van Etten’s Love More, which was released via band camp at the beginning of November. Its a huge song to take on, which MN does so with an extra-thick coat of delay and reverb on his voice, and similarly on a resonant acoustic which never tires of its downward procession of mechanical folk music. The harmonies are Atlas Sound-style chilling, and emphasise all the parts of Van Etten’s original with the same spine-tingling projection of awe. It looks like the initial trickles of a great project to come; though I doubt this is his first musical endeavour. Difficult to tell. If you find him any place other than Facebook and Bandcamp, please help me fill in some gaps for me.
